Donate to Spay Neuter and Prevention (SNAP)

Spay, Neuter and Prevention (SNAP) of Los Barriles was established in 2013 to spay and neuter Mexican owned pets before they mature and start reproducing. SNAP started because towns like Los Barriles were inundated by unwanted dogs and cats who were uncared for, starving, and sick with disease. Prior to groups like SNAP, packs of dogs roaming the streets were not uncommon.

SNAP educates Mexican families on responsible pet ownership, reducing animal cruelty by improving the health of the animals, and reducing the burden placed on families caused by unwanted litters and the cost associated with pet ownership.

SNAP’s Mission is to:

  • Provide free spay/neuter for Mexican owned dogs and cats in Los Barriles, B.C.S. and the surrounding area

  • Mentor Mexican community members to become strong leaders in their community on social causes

  • Educate youth to be leaders in responsible pet ownership and the importance of spay/neuter

  • Promote responsible pet ownership with community education

SNAP serves the community of Los Barriles, BCS including the surrounding East Cape communities.

SNAP believes children are agents for change. Responsible pet ownership encourages kids to develop skills to become caregivers. This is especially true for vulnerable children in developing communities and communities in crisis as young pet owners benefit greatly from their interactions with animals by developing self-confidence and self-esteem. Pet ownership also encourages kids to develop healthy habits such as compassion and empathy.

There is a very important mentoring and leadership component of SNAP. SNAP works to find youth that are interested in being role models amongst their peers by taking an active role in creating solutions for animal care, neglect, or abuse. In addition, young adults are mentored to be trusted influencers among our target demographics of pet owners. They also mentor youth on how to become leaders and change makers for their community on social causes.

SNAP also has an Animal Appreciation class for pre-school, primary and secondary children on how to be responsible pet owners.
