Could You Be One of Them?

[scroll down for Partner updates]

People often assume that the biggest need for a nonprofit is funding.
And yes, funding always matters …

… but right now, one of our greatest needs is people.

Leaders2Give is run by a 100% volunteer board. Not a symbolic one, but a working one. The kind where board members don’t just show up to meetings, but take responsibility for real pieces of the organization and help move them forward.

As our work grows from operating the John Gullo Home for Children to supporting a network of partners doing meaningful work that makes a difference, so does the need for committed, capable leadership behind the scenes.

This isn’t about having prior nonprofit experience.

It is about bringing something concrete to the table.

We need people who are willing to take ownership, whether that’s fundraising, financial oversight, legal guidance, governance, communications, operations, or strategic support, and follow through. Some roles are hands-on, others are advisory, but all require engagement, accountability, and consistency.

So we’ll ask it plainly…

Could you be one of them?

  • If you’ve ever felt drawn to this work…

  • If you care deeply about children, families, and community…

  • If you have skills or experience you’re ready to contribute, not just ideas, but effort…

  • If you’ve been wondering about how you could make more of a meaningful, lasting difference in the world…

This might be your moment.

We’d love to start a conversation, so please reach out info@leaders2give.org

We’re proud to be part of a growing community of partners who are making a difference. Keep reading below for updates from our partners.

PARTNER UPDATES

John Gullo Home for Children

The John Gullo Home for Children provides temporary shelter for children in BCS whose families are experiencing medical crises. Read the latest update below:

Over the past month, the JGHC team has been focused on one priority: expanding and formalizing referral relationships across Baja California Sur.

The Directors of the home have been actively meeting with hospitals, clinics, social workers, and DIF offices throughout the region—both locally and farther north—to ensure families and frontline professionals clearly understand who the home serves and how temporary care works.

At the same time, they’ve been taking a more grassroots approach by connecting directly with families and community members. This has meant showing up in person, having conversations, answering questions, and explaining the home’s purpose in everyday terms.

Along the way, they’ve been distributing donated clothing to families, helping with immediate needs while building relationships face to face.

These one-on-one interactions are helping build familiarity and trust at the community level, which is just as important as institutional referrals when families have a medical situation to navigate.

New Creation Kids (NCK) Children’s Home

New Creation Kids is a children’s home in La Paz providing safe, stable shelter for children whose families are facing serious challenges such as addiction and homelessness. Read about our involvement with the home below:

As many of you know, NCK has been with us since the very beginning and continues to hold a special place in our journey. Operated by Roberto and Alma Osuna, this independent, registered Mexican nonprofit provides a safe and stable home for up to 30 children at a time.

Children whose parents are unable or unfit to care for them due to circumstances such as addiction, violence, or homelessness.

While Leaders2Give does not oversee NCK’s operations, we help fund essential daily needs like food, electricity, education, fuel, and water. Our involvement also includes stepping in for urgent capital improvements like when we installed cisterns to help address water shortages in 2021.

Thanks to your generosity, we currently have enough funding to cover their basic needs for the year. That said, the needs at NCK are ongoing and often unpredictable. If you’d like to help cover the cost of essentials like water deliveries or meals, please consider making a donation. Just $25 can support one child for ten days.

The East Cape Health Center

The East Cape Health Center is a nonprofit clinic in Los Barriles offering full medical and dental services with discounted or free care for families in need. Read their latest update below:

This month, we continued working consistently to provide medical and dental care to our community. As a nonprofit organization, our focus is on identifying individuals with unmet health needs and guiding them through an initial evaluation process that helps determine the most appropriate medical or dental care for each patient.

Our work is made possible through a coordinated effort involving physicians, dentists, and clinical staff, combined with direct community outreach, referrals, and long-standing relationships built on trust. Through this approach, we are able to offer timely care, ongoing follow-up, and treatments tailored to the real needs of the people we serve.

Sustaining this model of care relies heavily on community support. Toward the end of the month, a meaningful initiative took place that clearly reflects this collaboration. A fundraising event was recently held at Tres Palapas, with the proceeds directed toward supporting our clinic. The funds raised through efforts like this directly contribute to the continuity of our medical and dental services, allowing more individuals to access evaluations, treatment, and follow-up care.

Community involvement is essential for a nonprofit organization like ours. Every contribution translates into care, continuity, and services that positively impact patient health. Initiatives such as this reinforce our mission and motivate us to continue working with responsibility and commitment.

We close the month grateful for the trust and support received, and with a strong determination to continue strengthening our services for the benefit of the community.

Joint efforts make it possible for social assistance to reach those who need it.

SNAP - Spay, Neuter, and Prevention

SNAP offers free spay/neuter services for the local community in and around Los Barriles, BCS and promotes youth leadership through animal welfare education. Read their latest update below:

This year, we’re asking for help on two very real, very necessary levels:
financial support and committed volunteers.

Our mission stays the same - To provide free spay and neuter services for Mexican-owned dogs and cats in Los

Barriles, B.C.S. and the surrounding area, while promoting responsible pet ownership through community education.

SNAP is committed to hosting 10–12 community clinics this year while maintaining the model that makes our program unique: free spay and neuter services with daily appointment access, so pet owners don’t have to wait months. It’s a system that works with our community—not just once or twice a year.

What do community clinics cost? Each community clinic costs approximately $2,500 and allows us to spay or neuter about 50 animals. That’s prevention, compassion, and real impact—one clinic at a time.

How can you help financially?  Through Leaders2Give, you can set up a monthly donation—set it and forget it—and let us do the work on the ground. Recurring support allows us to make responsible planning decisions, including how many clinics we can schedule and how many surgeries we can commit to each month. Predictable funding means more animals helped, sooner.

We also need committed volunteers to keep clinics running smoothly, we need reliable, hands-on volunteers willing to step into specific roles:

  • Pre-clinic prep – ensuring supplies and equipment are organized and ready

  • Clinic day support – transporting equipment, setting up the clinic space, and assisting with clean-up and pack-up

  • Community cat trap coordinator – managing and organizing cat traps, a critical part of successful clinics

  • Fundraising support – help planning events and outreach efforts

You don’t have to do everything—you just have to show up for the role you commit to. Training and guidance are provided, and every role directly affects how many animals we can help.

SNAP works because of community involvement. If you’d like to get involved, email us at 4snaplosbarriles@gmail.com and let us know where you’d like to help.

If you’ve ever wondered how to make a lasting difference, this is it. Thank you for being part of the solution.

Crescent Moon Project - Art for Children

Crescent Moon Project offers free arts-based classes that spark creativity and help children grow into compassionate, community-focused leaders. Read their latest update below:

Have you heard the buzz around town? Our student artists have been creating alongside adult artist volunteers through our Artists Collective. Artists apply to join the Collective, which welcomes creatives from a wide range of disciplines—painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, collage, and more. With an emphasis on personalized guidance, the Collective offers small-group mentorship for a focused, meaningful, and enriching experience.

Each CMP Collective artist mentors one to three children. Mentorship sessions are thoughtfully supported and overseen by Artist Collective Coordinator Sonia Lunceford, Teacher Erika Yasmin Meraz, and dedicated volunteers. Each mentorship culminates in a collaborative art piece that will be auctioned at Art in Bloom: See Them Grow! on March 28. In addition, each artist donates one of their own works to the auction. Watch for ticket sales—this loved event sells out every year before everyone who wants to attend can secure a seat.

“Magic” doesn’t quite capture what happens when a caring, talented adult artist works alongside children who rarely have access to experiences like this. What unfolds is connection, confidence, and creativity.

The artists selected for the 2025–2026 Artist Collective include:
Cristhian Gabriela Rosas Aguilar, Brett Carl, Christene Comstock, Kathrin Exler, Susie Frazier, Tamra McKinney, Laurie Riley, Tanis & Lawrence Rovner, Julie Shipman, Wayne Wagler, Peny Wallace, Diane Wright, and Carla Lizeth Yannayon Garcia.

Wonderland for Kids Sponsorship Program

Wonderland for Kids is a bilingual Montessori and childcare center in Los Barriles offering a Sponsorship Program to help low income families access affordable childcare. Read their latest update below:

Dear Friends and Generous Donors of Leaders2Give, we are filled with gratitude as we share some wonderful news with you.

Because of your generosity, Wonderland for Kids has accepted and fully sponsored a child through the month of June.

She is the daughter of a local worker and single mother who previously did not have access to reliable, quality childcare. Your support has made it possible for this family to move forward with stability, dignity, and hope. It has truly been an honor to watch this little girl thrive in our care.

She now receives nine hours of care each day in a nurturing, bilingual environment, where she is supported academically, emotionally, and socially. She is learning, playing, and growing in a space intentionally designed to honor the whole child.

At Wonderland for Kids, we are committed to quality care, serving our local community, and supporting whole-child development. This sponsorship is a beautiful example of what becomes possible when compassionate people come together to uplift families and create meaningful, lasting impact.

We currently have room to support more local children—but we need your help. The cost to sponsor a child from a single-mother household is $500 per month. This sponsorship covers all expenses, including Monday–Friday care for 9 hours per day in our Montessori early learning program. Your support can directly change a family’s future.

Thank you for believing in our mission and for making a real difference in the life of a child and her family. Your generosity truly matters.
