Partner Spotlight: New Creation Kids

[scroll down for Partner updates]

Long before the El Cardonal Children’s Home existed, Leaders2Give was supporting another children's home in Baja California Sur: New Creation Kids.

In fact, New Creation Kids was our very first partner, and our relationship with the organization spans many years.

Located just south of La Paz, New Creation Kids provides a safe, stable home for vulnerable children who cannot remain with their families due to abuse, neglect, abandonment, or other difficult circumstances. The home serves children of various ages, providing not only shelter and meals, but also the structure, care, education, and support they need to thrive.

The home is an independent registered Mexican nonprofit operated by Roberto and Alma Osuna and it provides a safe and stable home for up to 30 children at a time.

While Leaders2Give does not operate the facility, we have proudly supported their work alongside a number of other organizations, churches, businesses, and individual donors who share a commitment to caring for children in need.

Over the years, we have watched children arrive at New Creation Kids carrying burdens no child should have to bear.

Some come frightened and withdrawn, unsure whether they can trust the adults around them. Others arrive having experienced instability for so long that simply having a consistent place to sleep, regular meals, and caring adults in their lives is something entirely new.

One young girl arrived at the home barely speaking and reluctant to interact with others. With time, patience, and the support of the caregivers at New Creation Kids, she gradually began participating in school, making friends, and discovering confidence she had never been given the opportunity to develop. Today, she is thriving academically and dreams of attending university one day.

Another child arrived after experiencing severe neglect. Staff members recall how difficult it was at first for him to believe that meals would be available every day. Over time, the stability of the home allowed him to focus on being a child again—playing sports, attending school, and building healthy relationships with those around him.

Stories like these are why the daily operational needs of the home matter so much.

Our support for New Creation Kids has traditionally focused on helping meet the home's ongoing operational needs. These are often the less visible expenses that are essential to keeping the home running day after day: water payments, food, propane, gasoline, utilities, and other basic necessities. While these needs may not be as exciting as a major project, they are critical to providing a safe and stable environment for the children who call New Creation Kids home.

When Leaders2Give first became involved with New Creation Kids, the home was often operating with a great deal of uncertainty. Roberto could often be seen out with kids selling handmade items, and seeking support wherever they could find it to help cover basic necessities. Meeting the home's day-to-day needs was a constant challenge.

Today, thanks to a broader network of supporters and more predictable operational funding, there is far greater stability. While New Creation Kids still sells items to support its mission, the focus is no longer on wondering where the next meal will come from. That stability allows Roberto, Alma, and their team to spend less time worrying about immediate financial needs and more time focusing on the children in their care.

From time to time, Leaders2Give has also helped fund larger capital improvements when opportunities arise. Past projects have included installing additional water storage tanks to improve reliability and helping fund a solar and battery system designed to reduce operating costs and improve long-term sustainability.

The solar project was especially exciting because it was intended to eliminate the home's electricity bill entirely. For a time, it did exactly that.

Since then, however, two additional buildings have been constructed on the property by another organization. The added electrical demand from these buildings has exceeded what the original solar installation was designed to support.

As a result, New Creation Kids is now facing a CFE (electricity) bill of approximately $500 USD every two months, a figure that will likely increase during the warmer summer months when energy usage is at its highest.

At first glance, an electricity bill may not seem particularly inspiring. But electricity powers the lights where children do their homework, the refrigerators that keep food safe, the fans and cooling systems that provide relief during the intense Baja summers, and the daily operations that make the home function.

Because this expense falls outside the budget approved by our Board this year, we are reaching out to see whether someone in our community might be interested in helping. Perhaps it's covering a single bill. Perhaps it's sponsoring several months of electricity costs. Or perhaps it's helping offset the annual expense entirely.

Whatever the amount, your support would help ensure that more of the home's resources remain focused where they belong: caring for the children and meeting their daily needs.

We are grateful for our long partnership with New Creation Kids and for the many donors who have helped make that partnership possible over the years.

PARTNER UPDATES

El Cardonal Children’s Home

The El Cardonal Children’s Home (formerly John Gullo Home for Children) provides temporary shelter for children in BCS whose families are experiencing medical crises. Read the latest update below:

Over the past few weeks, the El Cardonal Children’s Home has continued building relationships across Baja California Sur through hospital visits, parish outreach, and community events.

In late April, Belén met with organizations and faith leaders in La Paz and participated in the first Los Cabos Associations Fair, helping expand the home’s referral and support network. In early May, the team also visited several parishes in La Paz to share information about the home and encourage clergy and church staff to connect families in medical crisis with this resource.

The outreach has also included direct participation in community activities with children and mothers. On May 14, the team returned to Invasión Caribe in Cabo San Lucas for a children’s activity with the Una Sonrisa por Caleb foundation, helping strengthen local relationships and build trust with families. Two days later, they attended a Mother’s Day event hosted by the Woman Wellness Foundation for women facing or recovering from cancer treatment. There, they were able to share information about the home with around 60 women, many of whom expressed gratitude that a place like this exists.

These efforts continue to deepen awareness of the home while building the relationships needed to help families feel safe turning to it in times of crisis.

New Creation Kids (NCK) Children’s Home

New Creation Kids is a children’s home in La Paz providing safe, stable shelter for children whose families are facing serious challenges such as addiction and homelessness. Read about our involvement with the home below:

As many of you know, NCK has been with us since the very beginning and continues to hold a special place in our journey. Operated by Roberto and Alma Osuna, this independent, registered Mexican nonprofit provides a safe and stable home for up to 30 children at a time.

Children whose parents are unable or unfit to care for them due to circumstances such as addiction, violence, or homelessness.

While Leaders2Give does not oversee NCK’s operations, we help fund essential daily needs like food, electricity, education, fuel, and water. Our involvement also includes stepping in for urgent capital improvements like when we installed cisterns to help address water shortages in 2021.

Thanks to your generosity, we currently have enough funding to cover their basic needs for the year. That said, the needs at NCK are ongoing and often unpredictable. If you’d like to help cover the cost of essentials like water deliveries or meals, please consider making a donation. Just $25 can support one child for ten days.

The East Cape Health Center

The East Cape Health Center is a nonprofit clinic in Los Barriles offering full medical and dental services with discounted or free care for families in need. Read their latest update below:

East Cape Health Center Ready to Assist

At East Cape Health Center, the safety of our patients and staff goes beyond clinical care.

As part of our commitment to comprehensive well-being, we have developed an internal emergency response program known as Code Brown, designed to act in an organized and effective manner in situations of risk caused by natural phenomena, such as the hurricane season that characterizes our region.

On May 6th, we carried out an evacuation drill at our facilities. During the exercise, the brigade leader, together with the active participation of our medical and dental staff, guided the patients present, explained the evacuation protocol, and led them through the established exit route to the designated safety meeting point outside our facilities.

While it may seem like a simple activity, a drill of this kind makes a significant difference when a real emergency arises. Knowing how to act, where to go, and who is leading the evacuation in the middle of a high-pressure situation can save lives.

At East Cape Health Center we believe that caring for our patients also means being prepared to protect them under any circumstance. Prevention and preparedness are an essential part of our safety culture.

Your Donation Makes a Difference

Donations allow us to keep operating day after day and are the driving force behind every consultation, every procedure, and every care we provide to those who need it most.

Every contribution, regardless of its size, translates directly into health and well-being for patients who would otherwise have no access to medical services. Your support does not only sustain our clinic, it sustains lives.

If you wish to be part of this mission, your donation is welcome and deeply appreciated. Together we continue building a healthier community with access to the care it deserves.

SNAP - Spay, Neuter, and Prevention

SNAP offers free spay/neuter services for the local community in and around Los Barriles, BCS and promotes youth leadership through animal welfare education. Read their latest update below:

We are so grateful to Leaders2Give for spotlighting our trailer fundraiser last month — and we are absolutely thrilled to report back: we hit our $14,000 goal.

That milestone belongs to this community.

Every share, every donation, every person who believed in what we're building here — you made it happen.

Where things stand with the trailer

We're actively finalizing the purchase and coordinating logistics to get it transported to Baja California Sur. Once it arrives, it will dramatically expand our capacity to reach families and animals in the communities that need spay/neuter services most. We'll be sharing updates every step of the way — from the first mile to the first clinic.

Meanwhile, summer is in full swing

It might surprise people to hear it, but summer is actually one of our busiest seasons. We're running monthly clinics, gearing up for summer camp, and this year we're adding something new — offering flea and tick medication as an incentive to bring pets in for office visits during the hottest months. It keeps animals healthier and gets more families through the door. A win all around.

Coming soon: bilingual outreach video

We're also partnering with a local videographer to produce a short video in both English and Spanish. The goal is community outreach — making sure more families across the East Cape know who we are and what we offer. We can't wait to share it.

Thank you — genuinely

SNAP Los Barriles exists because people like the Leaders2Give community show up for us. We don't take that lightly. Every animal that gets a chance at a healthier life is a direct reflection of your generosity.

Crescent Moon Project - Art for Children

Crescent Moon Project offers free arts-based classes that spark creativity and help children grow into compassionate, community-focused leaders. Read their latest update below:

Wires, Wonder, and Creativity: What Crescent Moon Project Kids Are Exploring This Month

This month at Crescent Moon Project, our young artists are exploring the inspiring world of sculptor and educator Ruth Asawa, best known for her beautiful woven wire sculptures and her belief that art belongs to everyone. Ruth Asawa’s story is one of resilience, creativity, and perseverance.

As a child, she lived in a Japanese internment camp during World War II, yet she later became a world-famous artist, educator, and mother of six children. Through our monthly artist studies, students are learning far more than art — they are also connecting with history, culture, geography, and the social sciences.

Inspired by Asawa’s artistic process, students have spent the month experimenting with drawing, sculpture, movement, and fiber-inspired techniques. They began by studying her delicate wire forms and practicing observational drawing using flowers, shells, and leaves. Through continuous line drawing exercises, students learned to slow down, notice details, and explore how lines can move through space.

From there, students shifted into three-dimensional work. Using paper strips, bubbles, yarn, pipe cleaners, and wire, children experimented with balance, repetition, looping, and weaving to create hanging sculptures and sculptural nets inspired by Asawa’s work. These projects encouraged patience, coordination, and creative problem-solving while sparking conversations about craftsmanship and persistence.

As the month comes to a close, students are combining their new skills into larger collaborative and individual sculptures. They are building layered forms, adding texture with beads and mixed materials, and assembling suspended artworks inspired by Asawa’s iconic hanging sculptures. The older students are also creating self-designed jewelry using wire and beads.

At Crescent Moon Project, art is never just about the final product. Students are learning to take creative risks, collaborate with others, think spatially, and trust their own ideas. Most importantly, they are experiencing the joy of creating something entirely their own.

Thank you for your support of and interest in the young emerging artists of Los Barriles!

Wonderland for Kids Sponsorship Program

Wonderland for Kids is a bilingual Montessori and childcare center in Los Barriles offering a Sponsorship Program to help low income families access affordable childcare. Read their latest update below:

June marks the final month of our Montessori program before we transition into our exciting summer program at Wonderland for Kids.

While schools are out and our town enters its quieter summer season, Wonderland for Kids remains a place where children can continue learning, socializing, exploring, and staying engaged in a safe, nurturing environment. For many working families, summer can be especially challenging.

Between the intense heat, limited activities, and the absence of school, it can be difficult to keep children active, learning, and connected with their peers.

Our Summer Sponsorship Program helps bridge that gap. Through the generosity of community members and local businesses, children can continue to access quality childcare, educational enrichment, and meaningful social experiences throughout the summer months.

For just $500 per month, you can sponsor a child and help ensure they receive consistent care, learning opportunities, nutritious meals, and a supportive environment where they can thrive. Your contribution not only supports a child but also helps a hardworking single mother maintain reliable childcare and employment.

Every sponsorship creates a ripple effect of positive change for local families and our community. Together, we can ensure every child enjoys a summer filled with learning, connection, growth, and opportunity.
